The short version of my life story...Plus a picture of me WEARING A WORLD SERIES RING!

I'm Nick Tricome, a sophomore journalism major at Temple University. I love all sports, but I'm a huge hockey fan above all else (hence the icy background).

When I was little, kind of like any other kid, I wanted to play in the NHL. Then as I grew up, like a majority of kids, I realized that I don't have everything it takes to be a pro. So, I took an interest in sports writing, with my reasoning being pretty simple. If I can't be the guy that scores the overtime winner in game seven, at least let me be the guy that help immortalizes the moment.

My original interest in journalism began in middle school, but I didn't start getting my feet wet until high school.

I created my own sports blog in my junior year and joined my school newspaper senior year, quickly becoming the paper's sports editor. The newspaper itself wasn't anything special, as it often had very little support from readers and the staff itself. However, I'm still proud of what I was able to accomplish in just one year.

I put together a blog for the newspaper, giving it an online presence for the first time ever. And even though the paper had very little fanfare, as I mentioned earlier, that changed when the last issue I was a part of released.

I addressed a very nostalgic letter to the graduating class that asked them to step back and think about how much their lives and the world around them changed over the past four years. The feedback was unbelievably heartwarming after that issue came out.

So many students thanked me and told me about how emotional the letter made them in the days following release.

It may not have been a typical news article, but it helped cement the fact that a career in journalism is what I want to pursue.

When I got here to Temple, I got involved with the Temple News right away and started writing articles for them. Freshman year was a big adjustment though and I ran into some tough times throughout both semesters.

But I think last year, as rough as it was, has made me a better person. I learned a lot about myself and what I'm capable of and I'm confident that I'll continue to improve from now all the way up to graduation.

Apart from being a student, I'm also the field hockey beat writer for the Temple News and have a part-time job at a grocery store around the corner from my house.

I also spent the summer as a volunteer coach for the Ed Snider Foundation and will continue to work with the organization in the fall.

As far as the future goes, the goal is still to become a sportswriter. However, I've become a lot more open to writing about pretty much anything else.

I still update that sports blog I mentioned earlier as often as I can, but other obligations have been getting in the way lately.

It may be a pretty lofty goal, but I would really like to make my sports blog a viable source for Philadelphia Sports news one day.

It may never happen, but I can dream can't I?
